Miami Hurricanes vs Bethune Cookman
The Miami Hurricanes and new head coach Mario Cristobal start their season 1-0 with a
completely lop-sided victory over the Bethune Cookman Wildcats. Bethune started off well on
its first drive going down the field with no defensive pressure. That was until Miami’s defense
stepped up for the first time and Bethune could not covert the third down and end up kicking a
FG for a 3-0 lead. On came Josh Gattis’s new offense for the Hurricanes, but as good as the
touchdown from runningback, Thaddius Franklin Jr. was, it was overshadowed by Keyshawn
Smith’s 70-yard kick return that gave Miami incredible field position and that started the one-
sided massacre. The defense had some mishaps which could easily be addressed at practice but
overall, the defense settled in and handled Bethune as they were supposed to. Miami’s starting
quarterback Tyler Van Dyke had a good first half with 193 yards and 2 touchdowns. Henry
Parrish Jr., who used to play for local high school Christopher Columbus had himself a great
start with 3 touchdowns for 108 yards. The Miami Hurricanes play Southern Miss next week,
if the Hurricanes plan to defeat the Aggies in week 3, they’ll have to fix all their defensive
problems and give Tyler Van Dyke more reps with his new starting receivers against Southern Miss.
