Miami Dolphins vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Miami Dolphins entered Thursday Night Football being one of two teams still being undefeated with the other being the Philadelphia Eagles. We knew this game would be a challenge because of the quick turnaround as well as injuries impacting the team and Hurricane Ian. The Bengals on the other hand enter the game 1-2 not looking like their former AFC champion selves.
The biggest storyline of this game was QB Tua Tagavailoa getting the start for Miami after speculation that he suffered a concussion against the Bills. In the second quarter it would be Tagavailoa getting sacked and finding himself laying on the floor with his fingers in a fencing position. The fencing position occurs when your head receives blunt force trauma. h was stretchered off the field and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he was later discharged and arrived back at the stadium with a neck brace. Tagavailoa would fly back home to Miami with the rest of his team. The NFL and NFLPA are currently investigating the handling of Tua Tagavailoa's situation.
On the field it was an ugly game with Jason Sanders doing a lot of the work to keep the Dolphins in the game. The game would go to halftime with the Bengals leading the Dolphins 7-6. You could feel that there was a different within the Miami lockeroom after the situation to Tua. Teddy Bridgewater entered the game prepared and would lead the team down the field on his first drive for a touchdown. CB Xavien Howard also dealt with injury having his right hamstring wrapped up during the second half. Howard was on Higgins all night as the Miami defense elected to double Ja'Marr Chase.
The deal breaker would be Joe Burrow finding his TE Hayden Hurst for the touchdown making it a two possession ballgame with less then a minute remaining. Bridgewater would also throw an interception on a forced throw due to pressure from the Cincinnati defense.
The Bengals improve to 2-2 on the season with the 27-15 victory over the Dolphins handing them their first loss of the season now at 3-1.
Next up for the Miami Dolphins is a road game to visit rival New York Jets.
