Inter Miami CF vs Orlando City
One matchup always on the calendar for both Miami and Orlando fans is when their clubs face each other on Major League Soccer rivalry weekend. The first of two of these special heated rivalry matchups took place at Exploria Stadium which got a late start due to a two-hour and 36 minute weather delay. Inter Miami CF arrived to Central Florida coming off a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas while the home side Orlando City entered the match coming off a 5-3 defeat to D.C. United.
Miami should've opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Indiana Vassilev isolated himself beating two defenders in the box and got a shot off but Pedro Gallese made the save off of his face. There was not much action in the match after this as both teams went back and fourth battling it out in the midfield.
What happened at the end of the second half would be heartbreaking for the Herons. A cross played into the box caused miscommunication between Drake Callendar and Damion Lowe which caused Lowe to attempt a clearance which would end up in the back of his own net in the 90th minute giving Orlando the 1-0 lead. The final whistle would occur shortly after giving Orlando City the +3 to stay in a playoff spot as well as bragging rights over their rival. Miami heads home down the turnpike with a sour defeat and falling to 10th in the standings.
Up next for Inter Miami CF is a midweek match back at home in DRV PNK Stadium welcoming the Philadelphia Union.
