Inter Miami CF vs FC Barcelona
Titled as the biggest match in Inter Miami CF history by head coach Phil Neville occurred this week at a first time ever sold out DRV PNK Stadium. Miami hosted the Catalan giants FC Barcelona for a couple of days with them training at the Herons facility in Fort Lauderdale followed by the grand match on a Tuesday evening. Inter entered the match coming off a remarkable comeback win against Charlotte meanwhile for Barcelona this would be their first action of the preseason before heading to Las Vegas to face Real Madrid.
Every single Inter Miami CF player touched the field so they could get the opportunity and experience of what it's like to play against a club of the magnitude like Barcelona. Fans were very excited and eager to see if the Catalans played their newest signing Robert Lewandowski in which he would not play, instead look on from the bench.
In the first half and for the entirety of this match it just looked like FC Barcelona was playing a game of pinball around the South Florida side. The level of skill between the two was obvious and I don't think anyone was giving Miami a chance in this one. Many fans across the world would go on to say that this is the huge gap difference between European and American soccer following the result. Although, other MLS teams would hold their own against Europe with newly Charlotte FC defeating Chelsea, Minnesota United thrashing Everton, and even D.C. United who lost to Bayern Munich but were able to score twice on them. This was just a showcase of the low level of soccer that Miami has right now that unfortunately the rest of the world saw and used it as the example to compare the difference.
It would be an overall good experience for these players to measure where they're at and where they need to catch up as a club in general as stated by Neville in his post match press conference. FC Barcelona went on to defeat Miami by a final a score of 6-0 having 23 shots compared to Miami's one with goals scored by Aubameyang, Raphina, Ansu Fati, Gavi, Mmephis Depay, and Dembele. Next stop for FC Barcelona is Las Vegas where they will face their arch nemesis Real Madrid at Allegiant Stadium for the second time in the United States.
Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road trip up to the Bronx to face the defending champions NYCFC.
