Inter Miami CF vs Atlanta United

Inter Miami CF vs Atlanta United

After a three-week break due to international duty we finally had some Miami MLS action and it wasn't pretty. The Herons entered this match sitting in 9th of the Eastern Conference as well as above their Father's Day opponents Atlanta United.

It took four minutes for the squad from the peach state to take advantage of the South Florida squad. A bad throw in followed by a bad pass back from Robert Taylor that found the feet of Josef Martinez who made his return from injury. Martinez would then pass it back inside finding Luis Araujo who would fire from at least 25 yards out picking the bottom left corner sneaking it passed Drake Callendar to make it 1-0 for Atlanta.

Miami looked like they hadn't returned from break and still on vacation mode. Leonardo Campana had the fewest touches by anyone on the field for Inter Miami CF. The front three had moments of spark but just couldn't find the back of the net. Poor mistakes from the defense is what cost Miami this match. Jean Mota would see a red card in the 29th minute that would leave his team playing with 10 men.

Miami would do a good job to stay in the game down one goal and down one man but the scoring streak of Josef Martinez would continue. Martinez who has scored in every career match against Miami would strike again in the 61st minute on a counter attack that would leave him unmarked in the middle of the 18-yard box to slot it home for 2-0. His goal would put the match to bed giving Atlanta United all three points jumping Miami in the table to 9th as Miami falls to 10th.

Fireworks persisted after the final whistle with Damion Lowe and Dom Dwyer getting into it having to be separated by teammates and coaches. The rivalry between Inter Miami CF and Atlanta United continues with both teams splitting the season series.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a home match at DRV PNK Stadium welcoming Minnesota United.
