Inter Miami CF vs New York Red Bulls
The Herons were back at DRV PNK Stadium this weekend to continue their May lineup of top conference teams. Miami entered this match sitting 13th facing a New York Red Bull team currently sitting 5th and with zero road losses. South Florida welcomed back two former Miami players Dylan Nealis and fan favorite Lewis Morgan. Head coach Phil Neville and GK Drake Callender were named to the MLS team of the week roster.
The match early on was all Red Bulls putting pressure on the Miami defense but the man in between the sticks has been keeping the South Florida side out of trouble as of late. Callender would make a save in the 24th minute from New York's Patryk Klimala which was a one-on-one opportunity to keep the match scoreless.
Ariel Lassiter would earn his first MLS goal with Inter Miami in the 29th minute with an assist by Bryce Duke. Lassiter would make the magic happen on his own from right at the 18 picking the bottom right corner surprising the NY goalkeeper to make it 1-0. This would send the two teams into the dressing room with not much action following Lassiter's goal in the first half.
That goal by Lassiter shut down New York completely as possession in the second half was dominated by Miami. The defense of Christopher Mcvey, Damion Lowe, and Ryan Sailor were something to highlight in this match as they were so difficult to break. Red Bulls would have a big chance in the 70th minute that would be saved by Callender which would really be their last chance of the match.
A big presence in the final minutes of the match offensively for Miami would be Gonzalo Higuain who was subbed on for Leonardo Campana. He would combine with Robert Taylor and Victor Ulloa in the 88th minute to put the game to bed with Taylor scoring the goal making it 2-0. Inter Miami would take the +3 advancing up to 10th in the table.
Next in league play for Inter Miami CF is a match up against the Portland Timbers at DRV PNK Stadium.
