FBI Arrests Miami Heat's Terry Rozier

Terry Rozier net worth and stats: Miami Heat guard arrested in gambling probe | Hindustan Times

The Arrest:

On the morning of October 23, 2025, federal agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Terry Rozier at a hotel in Orlando, Florida, where the Miami Heat were playing a game and he did not participate but did warm up. The arrest is part of a broad investigation that spans multiple states and involves more than 30 people, including current and former NBA players and coaches. According to the indictment, Rozier is alleged to have been part of an illegal sports-betting scheme involving the use of insider, non-public NBA information that could influence bets. Charges include conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money-laundering, though exact formal charges in Rozier's case are still emerging.

Background & Allegations:

The case stems from what prosecutors call "one of the most brazen sports-corruption schemes" since sports betting was widely legalized in the United States. The scheme allegedly operated from 2022 through 2024, across at least 11 states, and involved both betting on games and rigging outcomes or performance of players. In the indictment, Rozier and others are accused of having "access to private information known by NBA players or NBA coaches"- for example, when a player might sit out, or leave a game early due to a so-called "injury"- and then providing that information to betting co-conspirators. One example cited: When Rozier was with the Charlotte Hornets, in a March 23 2023 game, bets on his statistical production drew scrutiny because he left early with a foot injury.

His NBA Status & Recent History:

Rozier, nicknamed "Scary Terry" is a veteran guard, selected 16th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, then played with the Hornets before being traded to the Heat in January 2024. Prior to today's arrest, Rozier had been under investigation. For instance, in January 2025, reports said he was being looked at by federal prosecutors related to the 2023 indecent mentioned above- although at that time he had not been charged and the NBA had not found a violation.

Implications for the Heat, the NBA & Next Steps:

The NBA issued a statement saying that Rozier, would be placed on "immediate leave" from the Heat pending review of the federal indictments. This case raises serious questions about the integrity of the sport, especially given the involvement of multiple states, organized-crime families, and the growth of legalized sports betting. Legal proceedings are expected to move quickly: Rozier is expected to appear before a federal judge in Orlando. If found guilty, the penalties could be severe- wire fraud and money-laundering conspiracies carry long prison terms.

What's Unknown/ To Be Clarified:

While the broad contours of the scheme are laid out in the indictments, the exact role Rozier played- what information he allegedly provided, how much money was involved in bets tied to him, whether he profited personally- have not yet been fully disclosed. How the Heat's organization will respond and what this means for the remainder of their season and roster, remains to be seen. The investigation includes many others beyond Rozier, so further arrests, charges and details are likely forthcoming.
