The Marlins Sweep the Yankees

 The Marlins Sweep the Yankees

It was a special weekend at loanDepot Park as the Miami Marlins organization honored the legendary Jack McKeon who led the Marlins as manager to the 2003 World Series title over the New York Yankees. How fitting that the 95-year old former manager was inducted into the Marlins hall of fame during a weekend series against the Yankees. loanDepot Park saw record numbers that haven't been seen since the inauguration of the stadium in 2012. Yes, it was the Yankees in town but this young Marlins team has captured the eye of many with having the second hottest record in all of baseball since the end of June.

A series win over the Yankees would be Miami's sixth consecutive series victory and a sweep would put the team at the .500 mark as well as being the first franchise sweep over the Yankees. Let's take a look at how the weekend shaped out.

Game 1: Marlins 13-12 Yankees

Xavier Edwards would hit a tying two-run single in the final inning after an error in right field by Jose Caballero. Edwards would then slide head first to walk-off the Yankees off of a hit from former Yankee Agustin Ramirez. This game featured homers from former Marlin Giancarlo Stanton, Trent Grisham, and Anthony Volpe. For the Marlins it was a grand slam by Kyle Stowers and a two homers by Javier Sanoja.

Game 2: Marlins 2-0 Yankees

Agustin Ramirez made it a point to make his former team pay by hitting two homers being the games only runs. Eury Perez pitched six scoreless innings with the Marlins shutting out the Yankees 2-0 and winning their sixth straight series.

Game 3: Marlins 7-3 Yankees

The Marlins star player Kyle Stowers continued his breakout season hitting a three-run homer helping the Marlins complete their first ever franchise sweep over the New York Yankees. His homer made the game 6-1 in the fourth inning. Edward Cabrera pitched six innings only giving up two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Former Marlin Jazz Chisholm Jr hit a homer in the seventh bringing the game to 6-3. Marsee extended the lead to 7-3 for the Marlins with an RBI triple in the bottom of the inning which would result in the final score.

Next up for the Miami Marlins is a home series welcoming the Houston Astros to loanDepot Park.
