The Miami FC back to winning ways
After a good run of form for The Miami FC a loss to rivals Tampa Bay Rowdies kicked the South Florida side out of a playoff spot. Only one win out of the last three in league play with losses to of course Tampa and Birmingham brings Miami to the challenge of Charleston. A win for Miami can put them right back into playoff contention. This just goes to show you how tight things are in the Eastern Conference but nonetheless a remarkable turnaround for Miami since the beginning of the season.
After going up Alligator Alley on a road trip up to Tampa, The Miami FC were back at home at Pitbull Stadium hosting the Charleston Battery. The Battery entered this match sitting first in the Eastern Conference coming off a 2-1 victory on the road against the Hartford Athletic. Miami for sure has been up to the task this season when facing opponents who are sitting in better positions on the table.
Both teams entered this match with only a short amount of time to rest but the pressure was on display early on. For Charleston it was Cal Jennings and Jonathan Ricketts firing off shots but being saved in the 9th and 11th minutes. The Battery continued the pressure forcing another save out of Bill Hamid in the 21st minute on a shot from Juan David Torres.
As we neared halftime the game slowed down but Charleston managed to get another golden opportunity with the play building from the back leading to MD Meyers firing off a shot but would be kick-saved by Hamid keeping things level. The teams would head to the dressing rooms tied 0-0 with Charleston leading in possession by a whooping 63%.
In the second half it would be the home side that would take the lead through Marias Romero in the 51st minute making it 1-0. This took the morale out of Charleston who only managed one shot on target through the 75th minute in the second half. Aaron Molloy hit the crossbar in the 86th minute that would've equalized the match. The Battery's nine game winning streak would come to an end with Miami taking the 1-0 victory. With the victory Miami jumps into the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference.
Next up for The Miami FC is a road match visiting Detroit City FC.
