Florida Panthers vs New York Rangers
It was a poor performance last time out for the Florida Panthers getting absolutely destroyed at home against the Minnesota Wild. The Wild entered Amerant Bank Arena and left with a 5-1 victory as it wasn't the best night for Sergei Bobrovsky and the Panther defense. Bobrovsky would have to wait to earn his 400 career victory. It was time for Florida to go back on the road and this time to visit the legendary Madison Square Garden. The Panthers would pay a visit to the New York Rangers who they just finished facing in the playoffs on the run to the Stanley Cup.
The Panthers came out confident and looking to redeem themselves after that terrible performance against the Wild. Just 44 seconds into the first period it was Anton Lundell assisted by Sam Reinhart to put Florida up early 1-0. Just a short few minutes later it was Carter Verhaeghe assisted by Gustav Forsling to double the Panther lead making it 2-0. The Rangers would get themselves on the board in the first period with 4:44 on the clock as Lafreniere cut the deficit making it 2-1.
All three goals scored in the first period occurred early on and that trend continued in the second period. Sam Bennett would earn his 6th goal of the season assisted by Mikkola to make it a 3-1 Florida lead. Bobrovsky also redeemed himself after being replaced by Spencer Knight after a poor night against Minnesota but would not be the case against New York coming up with big key saves.
There was no goals in the third period as the Panthers would go ahead and defeat the Rangers by a final score of 3-1. Bobrovsky would go ahead and become the 14th goaltender to reach the milestone of 400 career wins. He's also the goaltender to reach that milestone the fastest and is two away from reaching number 13 in career wins. Artemi Panarin has six goals but would be shutout by Florida for the first time this season. The Rangers would also earn their first loss of the season with the Panthers sitting in first so far.
Up next for the Florida Panthers will stay in New York to face the Islanders.
