Inter Miami CF vs Nashville SC
Inter Miami CF would have the opportunity to do something they have not done this season which is win back-to-back league matches. Miami had a great win over Sporting Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium last time out with Lionel Messi leading the charge. Miami would now welcome Nashville SC who they would face for the third time this season after facing them in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Messi and company would have a great chance as Nashville has struggled to open up this season.
There was a record crowd at Chase Stadium on Saturday night as 21,000 showed up to see a marquee matchup between Miami and Nashville. The visiting team put on heavy pressure to open up the match and looked like this would be a long night for the Herons. In just the second minute of the game it would be an own goal giving Nashville the lead 1-0. This goal could be seen coming for a mile as Nashville opened up the match with high intensity.
The great thing about having Messi on your team is that you always have a chance to come right back into the match. That's exactly what happened in the 11th minute with Luis Suarez assisting the World Cup winner on the left side of the box who slotted it home for the equalizer 1-1. This would be Messi's sixth goal in league play and his eight across all competitions.
After the equalizer the match turned around completely shutting off Nashville and the momentum they had entering this match. Sergio Busquets would earn his first goal for Miami off a corner kick in the 39th minute assisted by Messi making it 2-1. This would also be Messi's sixth assist in league play and his eighth across all competitions.
In the 80th minute of the match Leo Afonso would be swept off his feet in the box prompting the referee to point towards the spot. Messi would step up and nail the penalty to extend the score to 3-1. The score would stay this way giving Miami the 3-1 victory earning back-to-back league victories for the first time this season as well as sitting in first of the Eastern Conference.
Next up for Inter Miami CF is a road match visiting New England Revolution at the weekend.
