FIU vs Maine

 FIU vs Maine

The FIU Panthers return to Miami after a week 0 loss to open up the new campaign against conference opponents Louisiana Tech. There was a lot of questions with the offense especially at the QB position after putting up only four total passing yards in the entire game. The Panthers welcomed FCS program the Maine Black Bears for the home opener at FIU Stadium.

There was a change at QB for FIU in just the second game of the season as Grayson James sits this one out and Miami native from Central High School Keyone Jenkins. Jenkins was a huge grab for FIU as he committed to them over Auburn.

WR Kris Mitchell hauled in 12 passes tying the programs single game receiving record with 201 yards. The Jacksonville native tied Tyrese Chambers and T.Y. Hilton for the single game record. Meanwhile Jenkins is the first true freshman to go 292 on 15 completions plus two touchdowns.

A duo of Panther players on the defensive side of the ball also put up remarkable numbers. Donovan Manuel had 14 stops as well as D'Verilk Daniel with 11 stops adding Alex Nobles with 1.5 sacks.

The Panthers never trailed in the game going up as much as 14-6 but as the same in the LA Tech game, The Black Bears would have a response.

The Black Bears would cut the game to 14-12 with chances to take the lead or even tie through a two point conversion but would fail. The Panthers had chances as well especially going for it on fourth down in the red zone but would also fail.

The score would stay right there for the Panthers to hold onto the 14-12 victory equalizing the season record to 1-1 and handing Maine their first loss of the season.

Next up for the FIU Panthers is a conference game welcoming North Texas to FIU Stadium at the weekend.
