Inter Miami CF vs Nashville SC

Inter Miami CF vs Nashville SC

A historic moment is on the line with Inter Miami CF traveling to GEODIS Park to face Nashville SC in the Leagues Cup Final. A Miami win would deliver the first major title in club history thanks to the help of Lionel Messi. Nashville SC who entered the league at the same time as Miami would also be looking to reel in their first major trophy.

At the beginning of the match you could tell that both teams were suffering from nerves and were just trying to grow into the match. The Nashville fans really made GEODIS Park a fortress and the same could be said about Nashville's back line. They did not allow Messi or Josef Martinez any space or meaningful touches on the ball.

Messi would once again rise to the occasion when a deflected pass found the Argentine at the top of the box weaving away from one defender with three more in front of him was able to get the shot off. The shot would land at the top corner making it 1-0 for Miami in the 23rd minute.

The second half saw the hosts put on the pressure in which they certainly were the better team in the second half. They found their equalizer in the 57th minute through a header by Fafa Picault off of a set piece to make it 1-1.

In the dying moments of the match, substitute Leonardo Campana would have a one-on-one with the keeper in which he would chip just taking him too far forcing him into a sliding shot with the ball coming off the post. The match would end 1-1 and would go directly to a penalty shootout.

In the shootout it would be Leal who would miss for Nashville as well as Victor Ulloa for Miami and would come down to an 11th round between the keepers. Drake Callender who was amazing in the shootout would score his penalty and go on to save Panico's giving Miami the 10-9 victory. Miami wins the inaugural Leagues Cup and reels in their first title in club history.

Next up for Inter Miami CF is a midweek matchup in the semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup facing FC Cincinnati.
