Jake Paul has set his sights on his next target in the ring
The Youtube and social media sensation turned boxer (5-0), spoke to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour and named Anderson Silva as his next opponent.
“I would love to fight Anderson Silva. I think He was the first celebrity I met. It would be fun to bring it back full circle and fight someone who was one of my first idols”.
Jake Paul admitted however that he will hold out till at least the summer. Since defeating Tyron Woodley via a brutal KO, Paul has been focused on promoting the Amanda Serrano v Katie Taylor fight on April 30th. The bout is set to be one of the biggest fights in Women’s boxing history. Serrano (42-1-1) is looking to be the favorite but will be cautious of a red hot Taylor who has extended her win streak to 19-0 (6 KO’s). Jake Paul has admitted also that his personal venture capital business has also taken a lot of time away from his training and will have to re-adjust his focus if indeed Anderson Silva is his next opponent.
Silva is coming off a KO victory over former Ultimate Fighting Championship rival Tito Ortiz in Hollywood, Florida. He had previously impressed in a split-decision victory against Julio Cesar Chavez. In 2005, the orthodox fighting veteran won his debut by KO against Julio Cesar De La Cruz. The former UFC Middleweight Champion, has not named who he will fight next.
Even UFC President Dana White has even entertained the idea of a Silva v Paul match.
“ “I f**king guarantee you this, you ain’t gonna see Jake Paul calling Anderson Silva out. That I f**king promise you. He’s his size. And he’s actually good. He’s old, which is what Jake Paul likes to fight old guys. He likes to fight old guys that are too small and that are absolutely, positively washed up.” - White said after Silva’s win against Ortiz. If the two are set to meet in the summer, it looks like cruiserweight (185lbs) will be the weight class best fit for both fighters.
